clean. sustainable. feasible.
Founded in Morocco in 2015, generizon is a company specialized in environmental services, renewable energy, and sustainable waste management solutions. The company was founded by Manfred Schweda through the startup MSConex SARL, the parent company of generizon.
Manfred Schweda holds an MBA from the Vienna University of Economics and Business and brings over 12 years of international experience in banking and emerging markets, having worked in interest rate derivatives trading in Vienna, Berlin, London, and Frankfurt. This strong financial and international background laid the foundation for generizon’s strategic and analytical approach to sustainability and energy projects.
generizon has chosen organic waste as its core area of activity due to its high share in municipal solid waste streams in Morocco and across African countries and its significant environmental and climate impacts when landfilled, particularly through methane emissions a short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) with a global warming potential approximately 28 times higher than CO₂ over a 100-year horizon. At the same time, organic waste represents a valuable resource when appropriate valorisation pathways such as anaerobic digestion (AD) are applied. As Morocco and many African countries are actively developing and implementing their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and other national climate and energy strategies, generizon identified organic waste valorisation as a high-impact and timely opportunity to support sustainable development, emissions mitigation, and renewable energy generation.
Morocco was chosen as generizon’s base due to its strategic geographic position at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, as well as North and Sub-Saharan Africa, its stable political and economic environment, and its openness to innovation and international collaboration. Beyond its leadership in solar and wind energy, Morocco also holds significant untapped potential in waste and biomass, making it an ideal hub for the development of Waste-to-Energy and circular economy solutions at both national and regional levels.
Today, generizon operates through two core activities: strategic environmental and Waste-to-Energy (WtE) consultancy, and the supply of biogas and energy-related equipment, supporting the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy system.
what’s next?
Looking ahead, Generizon aims to scale up its activities across the entire municipal solid waste (MSW) value chain in Morocco by translating strategic studies into operational, on-the-ground projects. This vision is built around an integrated and innovative approach that combines complementary technologies to achieve optimal greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions mitigation.
Priority renewable energy solutions include anaerobic digestion of source-separated organic waste (SSOW) using continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTR) adapted to high-moisture substrates; plug-flow digestion for high-solids organic fractions of MSW (OFMSW) recovered through material recovery facilities (MRFs); the production of recyclables and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to support the decarbonization objectives of the cement industry; and the systematic deployment of landfill gas extraction and control systems across both active and closed landfills nationwide. This integrated approach has been submitted and accepted within Morocco’s conditional Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Our goal is to build a sustainable and circular economy. International bodies recommend anaerobic digestion, to recover organic waste that produces biogas (energy) and fertilizer. It is absolutely common sense to take advantage of organic waste, especially in a country like Morocco which lacks fossil fuels and whose soils need organic and mineral nutrients. We should come together and do everything possible to achieve this and so reduce the landfilling of organic waste that is responsible for all the huge quantities of leachate produced that presents today our biggest problem.
we are generizon.
