The simultaneous generation of mechanical energy, electricity and useful heat is called combined heat and power generation (CHP). While the mechanical energy is converted directly into electricity, the heat can be used to heat, cool, or generate steam. The heat resulting from the electricity generation, therefore, does not simply escape into the atmosphere unused but is put to good use. This makes combined heat and power technology so efficient and environmentally friendly. Up to 40% of primary energy is saved. CO₂ emissions fall by up to 60% compared to conventional electricity generation in large power plants.

2G CHPs come in many different shades, different engine makes, for different fuels, serving different purposes, to produce electricity, heat, steam, refrigeration and more.

2G Energy differentiates its portfolio by utilizing its own engine technology developed on a Liebherr motor block, most notably in the agenitor® series, which covers a range from 75 kW to 500 kW. For higher power requirements, the avus® series spans from 550 kW to 1,000 kW, while also extending up to 4 MW and beyond by integrating premium blocks from brands like MTU, Jenbacher, and MWM. Regardless of the engine source, every unit is built to order using 2G’s proprietary CHP expertise, ensuring each system is precisely tailored to the client’s specific energy needs.

agenitor^® engines come for different fuels; besides natural and biogas also LPG and pure hydrogen; in fact, it was 2G that put the worldwide first 100% hydrogen CHP plant in operation. In 2024 there are more than 30 installations worldwide; the pure hydrogen product range is extended from 115 kW to 750 kW of electrical power. These engines are commercially available products today.

In addition, 2G power plants delivered today to operate on natural gas or biogas can be easily converted on site to operate on pure hydrogen or a natural gas/biogas-hydrogen mixture. The future is secure.
